DU hands 4 BCL men over to police
The Dhaka University authorities yesterday handed over four activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League of DU unit to police over beating up a rickshaw-puller on the campus.
Mehedi Hasan Toru, Raihan Islam, and Jubaer Islam live in Sir AF Rahman Hall; while Raihan in Salimullah Muslim Hall.
Mehedi was robbed of his laptop while returning to the campus from Sadarghat by the rickshaw in the early morning.
Later, he along with the others assaulted the rickshaw-puller on return to the campus as they suspected him to be involved in the mugging, said Proctor AM Amzad.
The four, however, were released later as Sayem Khan, president of AF Rahman Hall BCL unit, gave the rickshaw-puller Tk 3,000 as compensation.
Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said the rickshaw-puller was not involved in the mugging.
