Dinajpur municipal mayor gets back his post
The High Court yesterday cleared the way for Dinajpur Municipality Mayor Syed Jahangir Alam, a BNP candidate, to discharge his duties.
It stayed for three months a government order that suspended Jahangir and directed the government not to present obstacles for Jahangir in discharging his duties.
While hearing a writ petition filed by Jahangir challenging the suspension order, the court also issued a rule asking the government to explain in four weeks why the suspension should not be declared illegal.
The local government ministry on September 14 suspended Jahangir on allegations of corruption.
Yesterday, Jahangir's lawyer Ruhul Quddus Kazal told the court that his client did not commit any irregularity, and the Anti-Corruption Commission also did not find anything in investigation.
The government suspended him on political grounds, the lawyer argued.
