DU suspends 3 students over assaulting seniors

Dhaka University has suspended three students over yesterday’s assault on two senior students at campus and launched a probe into the incident.

The proctor’s office issued a press release this evening announcing the suspension order on Md Sifatullah, a fresher at Department of Women and Gender Studies, Md Al-Imran, fresher of Department Education and Research, and Md Mahmudur Rahman, a student of language institute – all low-level campus activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Among them, Md Sifatullah and Al-Imran were residents of Surya Sen Hall and activists of the Chhatra League, our Dhaka University correspondent reports.

They were found directly involved with the incident of assault after scrutinising CCTV camera video footages in primary investigation, the press release said.

Yesterday, a group of 10 to 12 youths assaulted two third-year students of Dhaka University twice, near the Registrar Building, when they were holding hands and looking for transport.

Surya Sen Hall unit president of Bangladesh Chhatra League had defended yesterday’s assault and said that Chhatra League found the two students in an “objectionable state”.
