The injured were identified as Rahul Patwary, a senior assistant commissioner of DB (West Division), Billal Hossain Mridul, a police source, and a passerby Salim, 25, Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Shyampur Police Station, and victims’ relatives told The Daily Star.

They are now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the hospital police outpost, said adding that Rahul sustained bullet wounds in his chest and Mridul received bullet injuries in his leg.

The “gunfight” took place between the law enforcers and criminals around 9:30pm in front of Postagala Nagar Health Complex, OC Abdur Razzak said.
