Defence arguments deferred
A Dhaka court yesterday deferred till July 17 the defence arguments against Bakhtiar Alam Rony in the Eskaton double-murder case.
Judge Md Al Mamun of the First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka passed the order after Advocate Kazi Nazibullah Hiru submitted a petition seeking adjournment of the hearing.
The lawyer said he needs time to place his arguments in defence of his client. On June 4, the same court adjourned hearing until yesterday.
On July 21, 2015, detectives pressed murder charges against Rony, son of Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan, while the court framed charges against him on March 6, 2016.
According to the charge sheet, Rony, in a heavily drunken state, fired gunshots from his car in Dilu Road area of New Eskaton on April 13, 2015, causing serious injuries to two persons.
The victims, rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and auto-rickshaw driver Yakub died on April 15 and 23.
Abdul Hakim's mother filed the case on April 15, 2015.
