Deal inked for new dual gauge rail lines
The government yesterday signed an agreement for setting up 3rd and 4th dual gauge train lines on Dhaka-Tongi and doubling of dual gauge line on the Tongi-Joydebpur section.
“The agreement was signed under Indian Line of Credit (LoC) for installing the railway tracks on Dhaka-Tongi and Tongi-Joydebpur sections,” Railways Minister M Mazibul Hoque said this while witnessing the signing ceremony as the chief guest at Bangladesh Railway (BR) Bhaban in Dhaka.
He said this project is very important for Bangladesh Railway, adding, “Currently, only two railway lines are used for entry and exit to the capital from Tongi. If there are two more lines, trains can run smoothly.”
The minister said Indian companies Afcons and Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited (KPTL) would construct the railway lines jointly.
Additional Director General of BR Kazi M Rafiqul Alam and vice president of AFCON Anup Kumar Guru signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under the deal, the company will complete the work within 36 months, and the contract will cost an estimated Tk 1,393 crore 78 lakh 90 thousand.
Railways Secretary M Mofazzel Hossain, director general M Amjad Hossain and representatives of contracting companies and officials concerned were present at the signing ceremony.
