Dalits in Barisal want protection law
Dalits of Barisal district yesterday presented eight-point demand including specific protection law to eradicate discrimination against the community.
They held a meeting in Barisal city organised by Bangladesh Dalit and Exclued Rights Movement (BDERM), and Nagorik Uddoyog where government representatives, different community members and professional leaders were also present.
The demands include quotas in admission and government services, various trainings to enhance their knowledge and integration, allocations for their welfare in the national budget, and social protection schemes.
Lalit Das, district president of BDERM, presided over the programme and Abul Kalam Azad, additional district commissioner, was the chief guest.
