Ctg BNP boss, 3 other leaders remanded
A Chittagong court yesterday placed four BNP leaders, including the president of Chittagong city unit, on a four-day remand each in connection with two cases filed for assaulting police and clashes centring Khaleda's verdict.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (prosecution) Nirmalendu Bikash Chawakrabaty said the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shahadat Hossain Bhuiyan put the four BNP leaders, including Dr Shahdat, on a four-day remand each in the cases filed with Kotwali Police Station on February 8.
The court also sent seven female BNP activists to jail after rejecting both remand and bail prayers, ADC Nirmal said adding, the court ordered police to quiz eight other BNP men at jail gate.
The leaders and activists were produced before the court with a 10-day remand prayer in each of the cases, said the ADC.
Earlier, police detained 19 BNP men, including Dr Shahdat, at the party office in the port city on February 8 after they clashed with police centring Khaleda's verdict, injuring 15 including eight policemen.
Later, two cases were filed with Kotwali Police Station in the port city against 49 BNP activists in this connection.
