CRP to donate prosthetic leg to Russel
Centre for Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) has announced to donate a prosthetic leg to Russel Sarkar, who lost a leg under a bus in April 2018.
Russel went to CRP this morning and the primary assessment tests for attaching the artificial leg were underway, our Savar correspondent reports.
“Initially Swiss-made leg will be set on Russel, which will be replaced later by a German-made prosthetic,” said Md Shafiq, head of CRP’s prosthetic unit.
“The process will require four weeks’ time,” he said adding, that the doctors will start the full infusion process from Saturday.
Md Shafiq-ul Islam, executive director of CRP, said they are hopeful that Russel will be able to move at ease after the addition of the artificial leg.
He told The Daily Star that CRP will be undertaking the cost of Russel’s prosthetic attachment.
Talking to this correspondent, Russel also expressed optimism that his movement will be easier once the prosthetic leg is attached.
Russel, 26, who was a driver, lost his left leg from below the knee after he was knocked down by a Green Line bus near Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in the capital on April 28 last year.
An altercation broke out between Russel and the bus driver over rear-ending his car. As Russel chased down the bus, its driver ran him over.
The Green Line Paribahan yesterday handed Tk 5 lakh to Russel following a HC order and is expected to pay Tk 45 lakh in 30 days.
