Utilisation of youth's potential key to national development
Participants at a views-exchange meeting yesterday said right use of the potentials of country's youth will accelerate the ongoing national development.
They also said no youth will remain jobless if they concentrate on skills-based education, mentioning that some 1.5 crore employment opportunities will be created through different economic zones soon.
Center for Research and Information (CRI) and #IamBangladesh jointly organised the event titled “Youth power, prosperity of Bangladesh” as part of the publicity of the election manifesto of Bangladesh Awami League at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium in Dhaka.
Six distinguished personalities from different sectors and university students spoke at the programme.
Saima Wazed Hossain, daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and chairperson of National Advisory Committee on Autism, stressed on integrating issues of autism and mental health of the youths in the development plan.
Replying to a query on loans for youths, Atiur Rahman, former governor of Bangladesh Bank, informed that the government has adopted necessary regulations so that they can easily receive interest-free loans.
Due to the government's bank loan policy, some 9,000 women are getting the opportunity to be entrepreneurs each year, while some 10 lakh youths have been employed through mobile banking services, he mentioned.
Two presentations titled “Youth Power, Prosperity of Bangladesh” and “Amar Gram Amar Shohor”, were shown at the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, State Minister for Information Tarana Halim said, “Awami League has implemented 76 electoral commitments out of 86. Awami League always keeps its word.”
Eminent scientist, writer and educationist Prof Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal said, “Youths who remain unemployed today have only their own faults and weakness to blame,” adding, “All kinds of facilities are in place for youths in the country to develop themselves.”
Echoing the same, Atiqul Islam, former president of BGMEA, said there are a large number of job applicants who do not have necessary skills to be employed, despite having MBA or other higher degrees.
“Youths must study disciplines that are in demand. Some 1.5 crore new employment opportunities will be created in the economic zones, in automobiles, supply chain sector… [Bangladesh will have] $40 billion future export opportunity. You have to prepare yourself for these,” he said.
National Cricketer Mehidy Hasan Miraz praised the government for concentrating on the development of the sports sector.
