Court dissatisfied with charge sheet
A Chittagong court yesterday expressed dissatisfaction with the charge sheet placed by detectives in a case filed for a double murder in the city's CRB area in 2013.
After hearing, the court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation to probe into the incident further and submitted the charge sheet by December 31, said additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) Kazi Muttaki Ibnu Minan.
On November 23, the charge sheet was submitted accusing 62 persons including Jubo League central committee leader Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar, former Bangladesh Chhatra League central leader Saiful Islam Limon and BCL Chittagong University unit president Alamgir Tipu.
Slum dweller Amran Hossain, 8, and Jubo League activist Saju Palit, 25, were killed during a gunfight between two groups led by Limon and Babar over a railway tender of Tk 1.5 crore on June 25, 2013.
On that day, police filed a murder case accusing 87 persons including Babar and Limon with Kotwali police.
From the charge sheet, names of 26 persons of the 87 accused were dropped and while 12 were shown fugitive in it.
The court wanted explanation from the PBI for dropping the names by December 31, court sources said.
Meanwhile, Limon and his three associates were arrested on Wednesday night over recovery of firearms from his house. Rab-7 filed a case against them with Khulshi Police Station, said Officer-in-Charge Nizam Uddin.
