Court asks for further probe in explosive case against JMB men
A Chittagong court yesterday directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to further investigate an explosive case filed against activists of banned militant organisation Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
The order came after hearing a no-confidence petition filed on November 27, 2016 by the prosecution against the final report which recommended exemption of three JMB suspects from the case.
According to court sources, on October 5, 2015, detectives arrested JMB leader Toufiqul Islam alias Javed with ammunition in Karnaphuli area. The next day, Javed died in a grenade explosion in Bayezid area while police along with the arrestee were searching for more ammunition.
On December 26, 2015, the three suspects -- Naimur Rahman Nayan, Faisal Mahmud and Shawkat Russell-- all students of the physics department of Chittagong University --were arrested in the port city ad were shown arrested in the case.
