Country suffers 70pc shortage in milk production: Sayedul

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque yesterday stressed the need for proper utilisation of the Tk 200 crore commercial loan being distributed to the dairy sector at this moment and said the country still suffers from a 70 percent shortage in milk production.

"Now the country's milk production stands at 72.75 lakh tonnes and the output should be doubled to meet the huge demand," the minister told a conference of upazila, district and divisional level livestock officials under the Department of Livestock Services at the capital's Krishibid Institution."It is our responsibilities to provide cooperation to successful implementation of the loan distribution programme being carried out by 12 commercial banks and a financial organisation."
