Cops should be proactive for women's protection
Only a fraction of the incidents of violence against women are reported while the rest remains unknown, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia yesterday.
Cops should take proactive steps for women's protection and contact the concerned families, he said.
The commissioner was addressing a workshop on Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act 2010 and taking coordinated steps to eliminate oppression of women and girl children, organised by DMP's Women Support and Investigation Division in its auditorium in the capital in association with Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.
Ayesha Khanam, president of the parishad, said DMP's women support division should hire doctors and psychiatrists to provide counseling to the distressed women.
