Closing arguments on war crimes Nov 19
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 yesterday fixed November 19 to hear closing arguments in the case filed against five Moulvibazar men for allegedly committing crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam fixed the date after the defence counsel declined to produce their witness in the case.
Earlier in the day, it completed recording the cross-examination of Hari Debnath, the investigation officer and also the last prosecution witness in the case.
After hearing closing arguments from the prosecution and defence, the tribunal will keep the case waiting for delivering the verdict, as per the earlier precedence.
The accused are Yunus Ahmed, 71, Ujer Ahmed Chowdhury, 63, Samsul Hossain Tarafder, 65, Nesar Ali, 75, and Mobarak Mia, 66. Of them, Yunus and Ujer are now in jail while the rest are on the run.
The prosecution pressed five charges against them on May 26 last year and the tribunal framed charges on December 8 the same year.
