CJ constitutes 58 HC benches
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain yesterday constituted 58 High Court benches with its 93 judges for hearing and disposing of the cases after its reopening following the ongoing annual vacation.
Both the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the SC went on a three-week annual vacation on June 1 and they will reopen on June 24.
Among the 58 vacation benches of the HC, 36 are two-member (division) benches and 22 are one-member (single bench).
They will deal with the cases from 10:30am during their scheduled working days, according to a notice issued by the chief justice. The notice was published on the SC website.
The number of HC judges stood at 98 after 18 additional judges were appointed on May 30 for two years.
Among the total 98 HC judges, three are dealing with the war crimes cases in the International Crimes Tribunal and two are now on leave, a SC high official told The Daily Star.
