Child marriage bid foiled in Satkhira
A 15-year-old girl was saved from early marriage in Satkhira Sadar yesterday.
On information that the parents of the tenth-grader were marrying her off, a team of the district's anti-child marriage committee went to the house in Sultanpur area and foiled the marriage attempt, said Sakibur Rahman, administrative chief of the committee.
They explained the negative consequences of early marriage to the family members, he said. A few police personnel also informed them about punishment of those involved in the practice.
The parents eventually signed an agreement that they would not marry off their daughter before she turned 18, said Sakibur.
The groom's side also confirmed that they would not let their son marry an underage girl and signed a document in this regard, he added.
