Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BCU) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit hosted a reception for freshers for 2017-18 academic session on Monday evening.

The reception was held at the Selim Al Deen Muktamancha on the campus amid festivity and fanfare.

Speaking at the programme as the chief guest, Prof Naseem Akhter Hussain of government and politics department said the youth, being imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War, will have to come forward to lead the country forward.

She also urged the students to uphold the university's image and protest all kinds of oppression, especially uprooting the ragging culture, for the greater interest of the students.

Prof Swadhin Sen of archaeology department, BCU General Secretary Liton Nondi, and JU unit President Imran Nadeem, spoke, among others.

Musical bands "Meghdal" and "Madol" performed at the programme attended by around 600 people including teachers and students.
