Charges pressed against 516 BNP men
Police have pressed charges against 516 leaders and activists of Chittagong unit BNP in two cases filed with the city's Kotwali Police Station in 2015.
Chittagong city unit BNP President Dr Shahadat Hossain; General Sectary Abul Hashem Bakkar; Chittagong (north) BNP Convener Aslam Chowdhury and other leaders are among the accused in the cases filed over clash with police, arson and petrol bomb attack, said police.
Police submitted six separate charge sheets accusing the BNP men over the 2015 violence in Kazir Dewri and Polo Ground areas, said Nirmalendu Bikash Chakraborty, additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
“The charge sheets were seen by the court and kept for further order,” he added.
“Police submitted three charge sheets under sections including Penal Code, Anti-Terrorism Act and Explosives Act against 453 BNP men in a case filed over violence in its Nasiman Bhaban party office and surrounding areas on January 5, 2015,” said Mohammed Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police station.
Police also pressed three other charge sheets against 63 BNP men in another case filed over petrol bomb attack on a bus in Polo Ground area on February 19, 2015, he added.
