Campaign launched for adolescents
To improve adolescent health, wellbeing and education, campaigns were launched yesterday for positive social change on adolescents aged between 10-19 years.
The programme was organised by the women and children affairs ministry, with support of Unicef in capital's Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel.
With an aim to enhance adolescent engagement and empowerment, a cooking show “Shorno Chef” will be aired to encourage healthy eating among adolescents. Focusing on lives of adolescents, drama series “Icchedana” will portray a group of Bangladeshi girls who face and overcome challenges and risks related to adolescence.
The programme also launched “U-Report” - a smartphone-based social engagement tool to speak out on issues of adolescent and promote positive changes in society.
Speaking there, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki urged adolescent boys to campaign for ending child marriage, adding that men should be against marrying any girl under 18.
Unicef Bangladesh representative Edouard Beigbeder said adolescents need to be engaged and empowered to seek information, and take actions to trigger changes within their families and communities.
