Bureaucracy a main problem: ACC chief

Even after the willingness of the government, good works could not be done thanks to sluggishness in bureaucracy, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmud said today.
“Being an ex-bureaucrat I want to say that our main problem is bureaucracy. Any amendment including in civil service act has lost in the black hole of bureaucracy,” he said.
He was speaking at a view exchange meeting titled ‘Media’s Role in Preventing Corruption’ organised jointly by ACC, Press Institute of Bangladesh and German International Cooperation Agency GIZ at PIB’s Circuit House Office in Dhaka.
Based on a news report on corruption in Haor area, ACC on April last year asked the Ministry of Water Resources to submit a report in this connection within 10 working days but the ministry gave an incomplete report after 10 months, said the anti-graft body chief.
“If ACC got the report in time, the disaster in Haor areas could possible to be prevented,” said Iqbal.
