One found dead in Old Dhaka building collapse

The body of a man was found inside the rubble of a collapsed building at Pathantoli in Old Dhaka today.

Jahed Ali Bepari, 60, a fruit trader, was found dead inside the debris around 9:30pm but the fire fighters are yet to recover it, Debashis Bardhan, deputy director (Dhaka division) of Fire Service and Civil Defence, told The Daily Star.

However, Jahed’s son Shafiqul Islam alias Babla Bepari, 16, remains still missing, said the fire service official.

Seven units of the fire fighters are conducting their search operation there till last reported.

Earlier in the day, a portion of the two-storey building located beside Sumana Hospital at Sadarghat collapsed around 1:20pm, he said.

Saidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, told The Daily Star that the century-old building earlier was declared abandoned.
