BNP's Nazrul Islam claims govt out to destroy Zia family
Accusing the government of hatching conspiracy against Zia family, BNP leader Nazrul Islam Khan yesterday said it had been filing false cases one after another against its members in a bid to destroy them by using the state power.
The BNP leader termed pasting of court summons on the wall of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan residence as a “laughable matter”.
Nazrul was addressing a discussion of Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB), a pro-BNP platform, at Dhaka Reporters' Unity, marking Ziaur Rahman's 80th birth anniversary.
“There is a plot to remove Ziaur Rahman's name from history… Not only that a move is on to relocate his grave from Chandrima Udyan. Any effort to shift the grave will turn into a nightmare,” he said.
On the sedition case against Khaleda, BNP Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said in her speech Khaleda did not specify the number of martyrs, but the government had been making the public confused. Meanwhile, counsel for Khaleda yesterday for the third day continued cross-examining Harunur Rashid, deputy director of the Anti Corruption Commission and investigation officer of the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case against her, in her absence, our court correspondent reports. With this, Khaleda had skipped the trial proceedings for 17 consecutive dates.
