Two activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit were allegedly beaten up by Bangladesh Chhatra League, JU unit men over taking part in a procession on campus yesterday demanding withdrawal of Tarique Rahman's arrest warrant.

The JCD activists were Rafiqul Islam Pappu and Saddam Hossain, students of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall and Shaheed Rafiq Jabbar Hall respectively.  

University sources said JCD leaders and activists brought out a process on the campus. Later, the two students were caught and beaten by BCL activists in JU's transport area.

Afterwards, the injured students were handed over to the proctorial body, which, after an interrogation, handed the students to Ashulia police, said Assistant Proctor Mehedi Iqbal.

JCD, JU unit protested the proctorial body's move to hand over the students to police.

Obaidullah Shuvo, senior vice president of JCD, JU unit, said, "We are deeply concerned over the incident, and we demand punishment for those who beat up JCD activists."

Refuting the allegation of BCL men beating up JCD activists, Nowshad Alam Onik, president of Shaheed Rafiq Jabbar Hall unit of BCL, said anticipating anarchy by JCD over Shaheed Noor Hossain Day, they caught the JCD activists and handed them over to the university authorities.
