‘Aug 21 grenade attack survivor’ stabbed in Dhaka

Miscreants reportedly stabbed a survivor of August 21 grenade attack in Jatrabari area of Dhaka early today.

Badar Aziz Uddin, 53, a local Awami League activist was stabbed on his way to Chandpur around 4:30am, said Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station.

He has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with injuries from sharp weapons, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Babul Mia of DMCH police outpost told The Daily Star.

“He [Badar] sustained stab injuries in his abdomen, chest, hands and back,” the ASI said.

Badar survived the August 21 grenade attack in 2004 with splinters of grenades in his body, his wife Jannatul Nahar claimed.

He was going to attend a programme commemorating the grenade attack in Haimchar of Chandpur, she said.

When he reached East Shekhdi in Jatrabari, three to four miscreants waylaid and stabbed him indiscriminately leaving him injured, said Liton Chandra Chowdhury, a neighbour of Badar who brought him to the hospital.
