A Sylhet court yesterday issued arrest warrants against 26 persons for their alleged involvement in illegally occupying the city footpaths.
The court of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hero issued the warrants following a report submitted by Sylhet Kotwali Police Station yesterday. Earlier on Monday, Sylhet City Corporation also submitted a report in this regard.
The arrest warrants were issued against the president of Sylhet Metropolitan Hawkers' Welfare Association, and 25 others from the association and various other hawker unions.
On May 25, the court asked the authorities to submit reports regarding those responsible for allowing the illegal occupation of city footpaths by hawkers.
Gausul Alam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said the warrant is yet to reach the police station.
