Another implicates Taher, Nani in Netrakona-6 killing
An octogenarian woman yesterday corroborated that Obaidul Haque Taher and Ataur Rahman Nani killed her brother and five others in Netrakona during the Liberation War.
Ayesha Akhter, elder sister of martyr Badiuzzaman Mukta, told the International Crimes Tribunal-1 that she and her family even grabbed Taher's father's legs begging him to spare Mukta's life.
"I am still alive to see justice…I want justice," said Ayesha, also the 10th prosecution witness in the case against Taher and Nani, identifying the accused at the tribunal's dock.
Earlier, Ayesha's son Abdul Mannan Sabuj of Nagendra Nagar village in Netrakona gave a similar description of the incident that took place on November 15, 1971.
Taher and Nani face six charges. They, however, pleaded not guilty before the tribunal.
Ayesha said Taher, Nani and some other Razakars detained Mukta, an organiser of the Liberation War in Netrakona, and six others from Birampur Bazar on 28th of the Bangla month Kartik and tortured them before taking them to Netrakona Sadar.
Her son Sabuj and nephew Faruk witnessed the incident and informed her family. Ayesha, her mother, her sister, Sabuj and Faruk went to Taher's father Manjurul Haque at Netrakona town and begged him to release Mukta but to no avail, said the witness.
The next morning, Sabuj and Faruk went to Netrakona town and heard that Taher, Nani and the other Razakars shot six out of the seven detainees dead near a bridge in the town, said Ayesha. Two to three days later they found Mukta's body, she added.
