All campaign materials removed

Authorities in Barisal yesterday removed all the banners, billboards and signboards set up by the candidates, ahead of the city corporation election. 

A drive that started at 11:00am and ended around 3:00pm was conducted jointly by Barisal City Corporation, district administration and police.

The drive was conducted across Rupatoli, Notullabad, Launch Ghat, BM College, and Ashwini Kumar Hall area in the city. 

“We repeatedly requested the aspirants to remove the campaign billboards and banners within June 20. As they failed to do so, we directed the authorities concerned to remove those,” said Md Helaluddin, deputy returning officer (DRO) of Barisal City Corporation election.

The election to the BCC is scheduled to take place on July 30.

At least 54 aspirants have so far collected nomination forms for the election.

The last date for submitting nomination paper is June 28 while deadline for withdrawing candidacy is July 10.

As many as 2,42,166 voters under 30 wards are expected to cast votes at 127 polling centres.
