Acid attack victim dies after 28 days

After fighting for life for 28 days, Bogra acid attack victim Purnima died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital early yesterday.

Purnima Khatun, 20, of Dinajpur was undergoing treatment at the hospital since her husband Sumon Mia, 34, and mother-in-law Sultana Begum threw acid on her face for dowry on January 01.

Following the incident, victim's father lodged a case on January 12 against Sumon and his parents who are absconding, said police.

Sumon of Hazipara in Bogra Sadar with his mother had been torturing Purnima for dowry since their marriage two years ago. Earlier, Purnima's father gave Suman Tk 1.14 lakh as dowry, police added.
