8 hurt in intra-BCL clash in capital
At least eight men of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Government Titumir College unit in the capital were injured yesterday noon in a clash allegedly between two groups of activists hailing from Gopalganj and Brahmanbaria.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital sources confirmed that eight students took treatment. Injured Vice President Jasim Khan claimed to The Daily Star that initially a scuffle and altercation took place after another vice-president, Wasim, and an activist who is also a first year student bumped into each other. Afterwards, some 40 to 50 activists, most hailing from Gopalganj, came down from the college hostel with sticks, iron rods and machetes and attacked Jasim, Wasim and some 10 to 12 senior leaders in the college's field, he said. Those attacked hail from Brahmanbaria, added Jasim.
However, President Kazi Mirazul Islam Dollar termed it a clash following a scuffle between activists from the two districts lasting half an hour and leaving eight or nine activists from both groups injured.
Banani Police Station Inspector (investigation) Wahiduzzaman confirmed it was a factional clash “over establishing supremacy”. He said additional law enforcers have been deployed.
