7 DU students suspended for remarks on teacher
The Dhaka University (DU) authorities yesterday suspended seven students for different periods over making “derogatory” remarks about a teacher on Facebook.
Khairun Nesa and Minhazul Abedin were suspended for one year while Umme Habiba Tanzila, Fatima Akter, Samia Mahzabeen, Abdullah Hil Bakee and Aditi Sarker for six months. They all are second-year students of Psychology department.
On November 26, Khairun Nesa in a Facebook post called Prof AKM Rejaul Haque of the department a "Takla" (baldie). The other students commented on the post.
Khairun Nesa, however, told The Daily Star that she did not mention any name in the post. “I was angry as I did bad in an examination on that day and made the post out of frustration.”
A meeting of the university's Disciplinary Board on June 11 found the students guilty after scrutinising a probe report by the department, according to a notice issued by the proctor's office.
