Six Bangladeshi students will contest the 59th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), to be held in Romania this month.
Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee (BdMOC) announced it at the capital's Sonargaon hotel yesterday while introducing them to journalists.
The competitors are Ahmed Jawad Chowdhury from Cantonment English School and College of Chittagong, Rahul Saha from Dhaka College, Tamjid Morshed Rubab, Joydeep Saha and Tahnik Noor Samin from Notre Dame College and Soumitra Das from Police lines High School in Faridpur.
The Olympiad started on July 3 and will continue till July 14. The Bangladesh team will head for Romania today.
BdMOC President Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury said, “Our students have won a total of 6 silver and 19 bronze medals and 25 honourable mention awards till now. We hope they will also make us proud this year.”
Munir Hasan, general secretary of BdMOC; and Abdul Quayum, associate editor of Prothom Alo, were present at the press conference.
