4 special trains in west zone ahead of Eid
Four special trains will operate between Dhaka and the northern and southern districts of the country for three days from June 12, to ease travels ahead of Eid, the Bangladesh Railway (BR) has announced.
The trains will each have eight coaches and can carry 8-10 thousand passengers daily.
Two trains will make two trips every 24 hours between Dhaka and Khulna, while one each will ply Dhaka-Rajshahi and Dhaka-Lalmonirhat routes twice a day, said Ashim Kumar Talukder, the Pakshey divisional manager of BR.
There are eight intercity trains in the railway's west zone carrying 10-15 thousand passengers every day, while the special service will carry an additional 8-10 thousand, said Anwar Hossain, the Pakshey divisional commercial officer.
Meanwhile, Pakshey division has cancelled the weekly day-off of all intercity trains ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr for managing the extra burden of home-goers, he added.
