4 more bodies recovered

Four more bodies were recovered from the Bongsi river in Savar, outside the capital, yesterday, a day after a thunderbolt struck an engine-run boat in the river. With those, the death toll now stands at six.

The dead are Shenoti Rani, 25, wife of Madhob Chandro , Mahela Begum,36, wife of Raju Mia,  Hosne Ara, 30, wife of Jahedul Islam , and Depu Lal Debnath,32, son of Mohonlal Debnath. All the four worked at Akhtar Furnishers Ltd.

Senior Station Officer of Savar Fire Service, Liton Ahmed, said informed by locals they recovered the bodies.

But, a passenger named Rebeka Begum is still missing, Liton said, quoting locals.

On Tuesday around 7:30am, the thunderbolt struck the vessel carrying around 150 passengers in Katlapur Gudara Ghat area.  Two persons died on the spot, 25 others were injured and five went missing.

Sheikh Rasel Hasan, upazila nirbahi officer of Savar, said families of the dead already got Tk 20, 000 each from the Dhaka district administration.

The search operation continued till last evening.
