3 'Neo JMB operatives' held in capital
Police yesterday detained three alleged operatives of “Neo JMB”, an ultra-radical offshoot of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), in a raid in the capital’s Mohammadpur area yesterday.
A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted the raid around 2:00pm near Genetic Plaza on Dhanmondi Road 27 in Mohammadpur and detained the trio, Mohibul Islam Khan, deputy commissioner of CTTC, told The Daily Star.
The arrestees are: Md Kamrul Islam Shakil alias Robot alias Tanzim, 25, Md Jamil Uddin Tushar alias Raju Hassan, 22, and Md Al Amin alias Jahid, 21.
The CTTC team also seized explosive materials including 100 detonators, a knife and a mobile phone from their possession, the police official said.
Primary interrogation revealed that Kamrul is a supplier of bomb-making and explosive materials, Tushar a recruiter, and Jahid a recruiter as well as an instructor of the militant outfit, DC Mohibul said.
They used to attend different secret meetings and exchange arms and explosives across the country in a bid to carry out anti-state activities under direction of alleged "Neo JMB" Amir Ayub Bachchu, he added.
