3 held over Uttara schoolboy killing

Police claimed to have arrested three youths for their alleged involvement in the killing of ninth-grader Adnan Kabir in a turf war in Uttara on January 6.

The arrestees -- Rajin, 20, Makrul Islam, 20 and Rajin 19 , -- were held from Modhumita area of Gazipur’s Tongi area in a drive last night, Mohammad Shah Alam, inspector (operations) of Uttara West Police Station, told The Daily Star today.

Adnan Kabir, 15, was beaten to death allegedly by some local boys in the city's Uttara on January 6. He was a member of a local teenage boys' group Nine Star, which was engaged in a rivalry with another local group Disco Boys.

According to locals, over two dozens of “teen gangs” terrorise Uttara alone. These include Disco Boys, Chhoton Group, Nine Star, Power Boys, Big Boss, Dark Shadow, Red Light, Dada Boyz, Dazzling Spirit, DSB, F.C R.TR, 15 Club, Nafiz Don, PL Rakib, Saiko Ridoy, Dare Devil, Gongzilla, HNY and Dark Souls.
