2 Tongi cops withdrawn for beating up bank employee
Two police officials were withdrawn after they beat up a bank employee in Tongi upazila of Gazipur this morning, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
The victim, Mohammad Amir Hossain, 45, is an employee of Sonali Bank (National University Branch) and is a resident of Shataish Bank Para area, the daily said.
The policemen who have been withdrawn are Sergeant Mohammad Feroz and Constable Shyamol Dutt, reports the daily.
Amir Hossain was going to his workplace when the Feroz and Shyamol stopped his rickshaw on Shataish Road and said the rickshaw could not go any further which led to a quarrel with the rickshaw puller.
At one stage, Amir said he would pay the rickshaw fare and get down but the police officials became furious and started beating Amir, Prothom Alo reports quoting witnesses and the victim.
On information, a team from Tongi Police Station and other members of the traffic police came to the spot and rescued the victim.
Confirming the incident, Inspector of Gazipur Traffic Division Mohammad Sohrab Hossain told Prothom Alo that Sergeant Mohammad Feroz and Constable Shyamol Dutt have behaved irresponsibly and they must be punished.
