15,000 yaba found in 'SI's flat’
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) yesterday recovered 15,000 yaba pills from a flat reportedly belonging to a sub-inspector of Chittagong Metropolitan Police in Hafez Nagar area of Paschim Bakalia in port city.
Rab also arrested a man -- SM Nazim Uddin Millat, 37, of Bakalia area -- in this connection.
The pills were recovered from residence of SI Khandokar Saifuddin of Bakalia Police Station, said Mimtanur Rahaman, assistant director of Rab-7 media wing. SI Saifuddin was in-charge of Chaktai police outpost.
Mimtanur said a case has been filed with the police station in this regard.
Contacted, SM Mostain Hossain, CMP deputy commissioner (south), told The Daily Star, “We have suspended the SI and formed a three-member probe committee to look into the matter.”
Rab official Mimtanur said SI Saifuddin used the flat to store yaba, frequently seized from peddlers at Chaktai outpost.
He said, on information, Rab detained Nazim, a grocer, from his shop along with 400 yaba pills and recovered another
1,000 pills from his house around midnight.
“During the raid, Nazim told the Rab officials about SI Saifuddin's flat beside his house. When Rab conducted a search at the SI's place, they found 15,000 yaba pills,” said AD Mimtanur. “No one was there during the raid,” he said.
They also found Saifuddin's personal and work-related stuff inside the flat, he added.
“Though the SI and his family lived in another place, he rented the flat for selling yaba with Nazim's help,” he said.
