1 held with 8 gold bars at Dhaka airport
Customs Intelligence today detained a person with eight gold bars at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The detainee, Md Khurshed Hossain, was smuggling in eight bars of gold in four packets pushed through his rectum, said Moinul Khan, director general of Customs Intelligence.
Finding his movements suspicious, detectives interrogated Khurshed and he admitted that he had the gold bars in his body.
Khurshed also admitted that he and his gold smuggling partner Imran Hossain lived in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Seven gold bangles were also seized from his baggage, according to a post published in the Facebook page of Customs Intelligence.
Had the gold been successfully smuggled into the country, it would be sold in different markets in Chittagong, Khurshed told the detectives, adding that the profit would have been split between him and Imran, the Facebook post also read.
The recovered gold weighing over one kilogramme is worth around Taka 52 lakhs, the post added.
Coming to the country from Sharjah, he inserted the bars through his rectum in a toilet of the airplane half an hour before it landed in Dhaka.
