Cinema actress accuses Rubel
A case was filed against Bangladesh pacer Rubel Hossain yesterday for allegedly having an illicit relationship with a cinema actress, whom he apparently promised to marry. The case was filed at the Mirpur Model Police Station under the Prevention of Women and Child Repression Act yesterday afternoon.
“The process of arresting the accused has been undertaken. The case was filed by a cinema actress. She lives in the Rupnagar residential area. She is currently in a victim support centre in Tejgaon and will undergo a forensic test on Saturday,” inspector (Investigation) Mainul Islam told The Daily Star yesterday. According to police officials a rape charge was filed against Rubel.
Further explaining the charges, sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station, Maruful Islam said, “The woman who filed the case said that the two were involved in a physical relationship for the last eight months as Rubel had promised to marry her. When she raised the issue of marriage on December 1, the bowler rejected. They tried to resolve the issue in the last ten days but it did not work.”
Despite repeated attempts Rubel could not be reached as his phone was switched off.
Bangladesh Cricket Board director Jalal Yunus said, “This has nothing to do with the BCB. This is Rubel's personal issue. He was advised to resolve the matter amicably.”
Rubel has been included in Bangladesh's probables for the World Cup next year and is likely to make the final squad.
