Child's play
When it comes to decorating the room for a new born, you may have to be extra careful as your child is very sensitive to his/her surroundings. The room has to be cosy and the colour scheme right. Here are some tips which will make your work easier.
While decorating your child's space think about your baby's particular needs. Make sure you choose a quiet room close to the bedroom. Make provisions for good ventilation; if the windows allow a lot of light, it may hamper your baby's sleep. In this case, black Venetian blinds or thick curtains in dark, solid colours are a good option.
It is not necessary that your child's space has to match with the rest of the house. To add colour to the place, wallpapers are a good option, but do not rush, wallpapering takes time. You can also choose conventional paint but make sure it is free from toxic fumes.
Green is cheery and brings a soothing effect like spring. Aqua is another viable option – it is bright and light during day and cosy at night. Orange promotes a welcoming feeling and puts reservations at ease. Yellow represents everything sunny and bright but should be used with caution. Too much or too bright can agitate the baby. White highlights innocence and purity; it is angelic and sweet but also promotes secretiveness.
Just like the colours of the walls, with all the gorgeous and colourful nursery furniture and accessories, it is easy to over decorate. Try to keep it simple and decide on a single focus for the room. Use child-friendly furniture and mix in age-appropriate accessories. This will reduce the need to redecorate it after few years.
