Charges pressed against 41 Bogra 18-party men
Charges have been pressed against 41 activists of the BNP-led 18-party alliance in trucker Shahidul Islam Khokon killing case.
Bogra municipality councillor Masud Rana, Md Saju, Jasim Uddin, Akij, Nengra Badal, Akram Hossain, Enamul Haque, Ohidul Islam, Mosfiqur Rahman, Abdul Khaleque, Shahidul Islam, Rabbi Mia, Shahadat Hossain, Shahinur Islam, Imran, Hossain, Sajjad Hossain, Selim Ahmed, Kader Ali, Abdul Maleque, Sarkar Mukul, and Shabbir Hossain are among the accused.
Sub-Inspector Safiqul Islam, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charged sheet to the Judicial Magistrate's Court, Bogra, on December 31, 2013.
Trucker Khokon was killed by pickets in Bogra town during a hartal enforced by the 18-party alliance on April 9 last year.
According to case statement, Khokon's Chittagong-bound goods-laden truck from Dinajpur came under attack by pickets on Rangpur-Dhaka highway near Matidali area in Bogra town at around 5:00am.
One of the brick chips hurled by the pickets hit Khokon breaking through the windscreen. Critically injured Khokon was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Seven of the charge sheeted accused, including municipality councillor Masud Rana, are now in jail while the rest are still at large.
