Candidature of law minister legal: HC
The High Court today declared legal the candidature of Law Minister Anisul Huq through which he was elected unopposed from the Brahmanbaria-4 constituency to the 10th parliament.
The HC bench of Justice Soumendra Sarker came up with the order after allowing a petition moved by Huq seeking dismissal of a plea challenging his candidacy to the election.
Anisul's lawyer AM Aminuddin told The Daily Star that his client contesting in the election has been declared valid following the HC order.
Khandker Hebzur Rahman, a Jatiya Party (Manju) leader, submitted the petition to the HC on February 11 saying the Awami League lawmaker resigned from the post of Anti-Corruption Commission's chief counsel after submitting his nomination paper.
As per the Representation of the People Order, a candidate must resign from government posts before the submission, he stated in the petition.
Hebzur's nomination papers for the same constituency were cancelled by the returning officer as a case was pending against him.
