Campaign heats up in Palashbari UZ of Gaibandha
Aspirants are moving door to door seeking votes as elections in Palashbari upazila will be held on February 27.
Jamaat candidates are not seen in the open field of election campaign as they are accused of different cases or remained absconding to avert probable arrest.
They are only communicating voters over mobile phone, said locals.
Jamaat candidate for chairman post is a factor in the upazila as the area has foothold of Jamaat.
Nine candidates will contest for chairman, seven for vice-chairman and three for female vice-chairman on the day.
Chairman candidates are AKM Moksud Chowdhury (AL), Mamunur Rabbi Chowdhury (JP Jafer), Shah Alam Sarker (BNP), AKM Nazrul Islam (Jamaat), Alamgir Mandol (JP Jafer), Abu Bakker Siddique (JP Ershad), Independent candidates Suroj Mia, Firoj Kabir Sumon and Mosfiqur Rahman.
Vice-chairman candidates are Matluber Rahman Nannu (AL), Advocate Ayub Ali Prodhan (JP Jafar), Abu Taleb Sarker (Jamaat), Mojibar Rahaman (JP Ershad), Independent candidates Golam Azam, Abdul Majid Mandol, Amirul Islam. Woman vice-chairman candidates are Kohinoor Akhter Siphon (BNP), independent candidates Anowera Begam and Shamoly Begum.
Three candidates belong to AL, BNP and Jamaat are in hard contest to win the post of chairman. They are immediate past upazila chairman AKM Moksed Chowdhury (AL), BNP upazila president Shah Alam Sarker and Jamat upazila leader Nazrul Islam.
