‘Number of tourists increasing in Bangladesh’

The number of tourists both domestic and foreign has increased significantly in Bangladesh after the tourism sector saw setback due to political violence and militancy, according to tourist police.

Different tourist friendly initiatives, including ensuring security and facilitating safe and hassle-free travelling, from tourist police have helped to increase the number of tourists in the country, Sohrab Hossain, deputy inspector general of Tourist Police, said today. 

In six months after the attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka on July 1, 2016, the number of domestic tourists stood at around 90,000 which has increased to 3.5 crore in 2017 while the number of foreign tourists has increased to 106,000 from 16,000, he said.

Addressing at a press conference in Dhaka this afternoon, he came up with the statistics collected from around 800 tourist spots in Bangladesh.
