SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh organised a panel discussion titled “Every Woman is a Leader: The Stories of Sheroes”
Reinstating the appeal of this year's International Women's Day Theme "Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world", SOS Children's Villages Bangladesh organised a panel discussion titled "Every Woman is a Leader: The Stories of Sheroes". This event held on 12 October 2021 at the Hermann Gmeiner Auditorium, Shyamoli, Dhaka. The main objective of this event was to raise awareness and inspire the young girls growing under the Alternative Care (Family Like Care) so that they can challenge the world for change and being alert to the growth opportunities for a more gender-balanced society.
In his opening remarks, Dr Md. Enamul Haque, National Director, SOS Children's Villages Bangladesh mentioned that "53% beneficiaries, as well as 50% co-workers of SOS Children's Villages Bangladesh, are female which clearly indicates that we integrate gender equality and inclusion across the areas of our work." The Chief Guest for this event was H.E. Espen Rikter-Svendsen, Ambassador to Bangladesh, Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka and the Special Guest was Mr Tariqul Islam, Director General, NGO Affairs Bureau, Prime Minister's Office. Renowned women holding top rank in different sectors of Bangladesh shared their stories with the young girls under the care of SOS Children's Villages Bangladesh. The sectors included IT, Banking, Academia, Media and Entertainment, Health, Police, Consumer Products, Fashion, Beauty etc. The panellists shared their experiences and different guidelines to become successful in their specific sectors. Nearly 200 young girls participated from the six locations of SOS Children's Villages across Bangladesh both in person and virtually. This panel discussion was extensively motivating for the audiences, especially the girls to follow their dreams and become successful in their chosen paths.
