Strike at Petrapole: Trade through Benapole port resumes after 5 days
Export-import has resumed through Benapole port this morning, five days after an indefinite strike was enforced by India's Petrapole port users.
At the time of filing this report, goods of 68 trucks have been imported while valuables of 32 trucks have been exported since morning, reports our Benapole correspondent, quoting Benapole Port Deputy Director Abdul Jalil.
The indefinite strike was called off after Border Security Force and the Petrapole Land Port Authority had several meetings with six organisations using Petrapole port including transport agency, truck workers' union, C&F agent staff welfare association and tank lorry association, he told The Daily Star.
"Due to the strike, the production process was severely hampered due to shortage of raw materials in Bangladesh's garment industries," said Matiar Rahman, director of India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce.
In protest of various harassment by the land port manager at Petrapole, port users' organisations, including the C&F Agent Staff Association, the Transport Association, and the Motor Workers' Union, called the strike on January 31.
