Stocks fall for seventh consecutive day
The benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse massively fluctuated today, as it soared 89 points at the beginning of trading, but ended the day with a 76-point fall.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), slid 1.08 per cent to 7,020 points.
During the fall in the last seven consecutive days, the index lost 347 points or 4.71 per cent.
Turnover at the DSE, however, rose around 21 per cent to Tk 1,682 crore, up from Tk 1,393 crore a day earlier.
At the DSE, 87 stocks advanced, 254 fell and 35 remained unchanged.
Delta Life Insurance topped the gainers' list that rose 9.33 per cent followed by Sonargaon Textiles, Fas Finance, Fareast Life Insurance, and Padma Life Insurance.
BD Lamps shed mostly that lost 11 per cent followed by NRB Commercial Bank, Heidelberg Cement, RD Food, and Beach Hatchery.
NRB Commercial Bank became the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 104 crore changing hands, followed by Delta Life Insurance, IFIC Bank, Orion Pharmaceuticals, and Fortune Shoes.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also dropped today. The CASPI, the general index of the port city bourse, edged down 186 points, or 0.90 per cent, to 20,521.
Among the traded 298 stocks, 79 rose, 199 fell and 20 remained unchanged.
