Mitsubishi Power, a power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd, secured a seven-year full-turnkey contract for the Bibiyana–III Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), said a press release yesterday.
Under the long-term service agreement, Mitsubishi Power will continue to provide maintenance and inspection services of the plant's gas turbine and related power generation equipment to enhance reliability and drive performance and efficiency.
Located approximately 200 kilometres northeast of Dhaka, the Bibiyana-III CCPP is one of Bangladesh's largest gas turbine combined cycle power plants owned by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), which oversees the planning and development of the country's power sector.
BPDB Chairman Md Mahbubur Rahman said the demand for electricity in Bangladesh is rising and the agreement would help it ensure reliable and efficient power generation to deliver stable electricity to the nation.
Osamu Ono, managing director and chief executive officer of Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific, said the gas turbines supplied by the company contribute to one-fifth of Bangladesh's total energy production capacity.
