The High Court yesterday asked the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to provide all income tax related documents of Bangladeshi freight forwarding company GBX Logistics Limited by October 14.
The bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice SM Moniruzzaman sought the documents on hearing a writ petition. A national daily published a report on August 5 headlined “Demand for Tk 56 crore income tax lying at NBR”.
It said the NBR had launched a probe into a company which had submitted tax of over Tk 61 lakh on showing an income of Tk 12.12 crore.
The probe discovered that the company had actually earned over Tk 366.6 crore during that time period, for which its income tax amounted to over Tk 56.43 crore.
The NBR said GBX Logistics provides importers and exporters a number of services, including booking cargo space on ships and airlines, for commission.
Barrister Aneek R Haque and Advocate Mokhlesur Rahman appeared for the writ petitioner.
